*Otaku is a term used to refer to people with obsessive interests, particularly anime, manga and games.
*Otoko is a Japanese word for a man.
As you can guess from the above conversation, my friend Jim had a typo. He wanted to say ‘Half Otaku’ instead of ‘Half Otoko’. However, for a moment I did thought that he wanted to confess that he is into transvestism.
Now, his reason for being only a Half Otaku is because he wasn’t into cos-play. How many of you agree with this statement? I, for one do not agree and below are the reasons.
If you fit into any of the categories, congratulations as you belong to one of the Otaku.
- You go straight home everyday, switch on your computer and start playing games until the wee hours and sleeping less than 6hours a day.
- Your weekends and public holidays are usually at home playing games, watching animes and/or reading manga.
- Whenever you don’t get to play the game or watch your anime, you feel very uncomfortable and wish for the day to pass faster.
- You rather go home to play game or watch anime than go out with your girlfriend/boyfriend.
Before I end the topic on Otaku, I would like to introduce a Japanese drama to all my readers. Densha Otoko (translated as Train Man) is based on the purportedly true story of a 23-year-old Otaku who intervened when a drunk man was harassing several women on a train. The Otaku ultimately begins dating one of the women. I hope this drama will bring hope to all Otaku. ^^
